Reed Appleseed is The premier Freak Folk/Indie Rock Band From Washington D.C. hold on to your butts.
What is freak folk you ask? It is a dumb way for them to catch peoples' ever diminishing attention when asked what genre of music they play. They write folk-rooted songs that tend to meander into sub-genres with harmonic trickeries, all whilst talking about freaky/spooky/zany subject matter.
Plugging away, plugging away, plugging away. Reed Appleseed has had their nose to the ground and finger on the pulse of DC’s music scene since spring of 2015. They had been bunkered away for the summer and fall of 2017 writing, recording and producing their first EP, which they self-released in December of 2017. Then they came out of Nick's basement bleary-eyed and pale-skinned, to share with you what they created. You can find the Reed Appleseed EP on Bandcamp, Spotify, Youtube, Google Play, Itunes, Amazon and probably some more places. The sophomore endeavor, The Tangerine EP, comes out on June 22nd 2019. Also self-produced.
Nikhil Venkat - D.C. Music Reviewer on "Boxes and Boxes" from Reed Appleseed EP:
"Caught them playing at Boundary Stone for their EP release and was blown away by the vocal melodies of Reed and obtuse song structures themselves. As far as this song goes... it reminds me of so many nostalgic eras of my life from obsessing over John Lennon and Bob Dylan when I first got into playing guitar, but also later years like discovering Foxygen and seeing the beauty in complex song structures while still being accessible..."
